The Black Coco Bush Bean is like the James Bond of the garden world—sleek, sophisticated, and surprisingly versatile. This bush bean variety is compact yet prolific, producing an abundance of beans that are perfect for any culinary mission. It's the secret agent of legumes, ready to impress your taste buds with its rich, nutty flavor. Does not require staking. Donning a sleek, midnight-black coat, the Black Coco Bush Bean is the little black dress of the plant kingdom. When cooked, it transforms into a soft, dark chocolate hue, making it a striking addition to any dish.
Instructions
Sow Black Coco bean seeds after the last frost date in your area when the soil has warmed to at least 15°C. Consider starting seeds indoors if you live in an area with a short growing season. This can give your beans a head start. When transplanting or sowing outside keep an eye on nighttime temperatures. This ensures they consistently stay above 10°C. Plant seeds about 3cm deep and 6 to 8cm apart in rows that are 45 to 60cm apart. This spacing allows for adequate air circulation and ease of access for harvesting. Snap beans (young and fresh) Harvest can begin around 55 to 60 days when the pods are still green, tender, and the beans inside are not yet visibly swollen. Shelling beans (fully formed but still fresh) This stage is usually about 70 days after planting, when the beans inside the pod are plump but before the pod dries out. Dry beans (for storage or soup) For dry beans, you must leave the pods on the plant until they are fully mature, hard, and dry, and the vines have yellowed. The pods will change from green to a straw color and you will hear the beans rattle inside when you shake the pod.
