Instructions
To sow black hollyhock seeds, start by selecting the right time, ideally in early spring or late fall. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and enrich it by mixing in compost. Plant the seeds about 1/4 inch deep and cover them lightly with soil. Space the seeds 18-24 inches apart to ensure proper growth and air circulation. Keep the soil consistently moist, avoiding waterlogging, until germination occurs. Once the seedlings reach about 2 inches in height, thin them out to allow the strongest plants to thrive. Germination is 10 to 21 days. For indoor sowing, begin about 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Use seed trays or small pots filled with seed-starting mix. Plant the black hollyhock seeds 1/4 inch deep and lightly cover them with soil. Place the trays in a warm area or use a heat mat to encourage germination, ensuring they receive plenty of light, either from a sunny window or grow lights. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Once seedlings emerge, thin them out to maintain healthy growth. When temperatures are consistently warm, transplant the seedlings outdoors, spacing them 18-24 inches apart.
