Red Romaine Lettuce

Red Romaine Lettuce
- Seeds per pack: 100+
Seed Details
An old romaine variety with lime green centers and bright coppery red outer leaves. Very slow to bolt and become bitter. It will provide color and flavour to any salad or garnish.
Instructions
To sow lettuce seeds, begin by selecting a location with well-draining soil and access to full sun, though lettuce can tolerate partial shade. Prepare the soil by loosening it to a depth of about 12 inches, removing any rocks or debris, and enriching it with compost to improve fertility and drainage. If sowing directly in the garden, gently rake the soil to create a smooth surface. Scatter the lettuce seeds thinly on the soil surface, as they require light to germinate. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of fine soil or compost, no more than a quarter inch deep. Water the area gently to ensure the soil is evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period, which typically lasts 7-10 days. If starting seeds indoors, fill seed trays with a quality seed-starting mix, scatter the seeds, and cover them lightly. Once the seedlings have a few true leaves and are about 2-3 inches tall, they can be transplanted to the garden, spacing them about 12 inches apart to allow sufficient room for growth. Finally, maintain regular watering and consider mulching to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
