Swiss Giant pansies boast an early flush of flowers whose marking are face like in appearance. Gardeners searching for that early pop of color to enhance their Spring vibe are recommended to plant with Spring flowering bulbs, in borders, rock gardens, basket or containers. Pansies are also edible. Added to salads for color and interest or candied and used as unique decoration in ice, candied or atop a fresh garden salad. Pansies mild flavour lends itself to both sweet or savoury dishes.
Instructions
Pansies super tiny seeds need complete darkness to sprout. Sown 5mm deep and keep the soil at 18-25°C, until they germinate in around 12 to 20 days. Start pansy seeds indoors in late winter, 8 to 10 weeks before the last spring frost in your zone for early spring and summer flowering. Once germination occurs keep under a grow light but at a cooler temperature of 10 C. Harden off and then and transplant outdoors in early May. You may also sow seed directly outdoors in early fall or spring. Lightly cover the seeds with soil in well drained soil with full sun to partial shade. Thin or transplant seedlings to a spacing of 20 cm (8″) apart in the garden. Indoor sowing is recommended.
