Seed Details
The California Poppy Mix is a vibrant addition to any garden, known for its bright orange blooms and fast growth. These plants feature distinctive blue-green leaves and thrive in warm, dry climates. They are frost hardy and perfect for various environments. For planting, sow seeds in early spring directly in the garden, choosing a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Avoid transplanting as they don't respond well to disturbance. California poppies self-sow, reducing maintenance, and regular deadheading encourages prolonged blooming. Incorporating them into your garden will create a colorful landscape with minimal effort.
Instructions
Sow seeds in the fall for spring blooms, or in early spring if missed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Clear weeds and debris before planting. To sow, loosen the top inch of soil, scatter the tiny seeds evenly, lightly rake to cover them, and gently water the area. Germination takes 10-30 days. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged; once established, they are drought tolerant. Thin seedlings to 6-8 inches apart. These plants usually don’t need fertilizer. Remove spent flowers for continuous blooms and watch for pests like aphids and slugs. California Poppies bloom from late spring to early summer, returning year after year with minimal care.
