Onion - White Pickling
Onion - White Pickling
- Seeds per pack: 125+
Seed Details
Onions are easy to grow and are a great pest deterrent in your vegetable garden. This plant produces compact, white bulbs that are perfect for pickling. Their size is popular for fresh summer salads, shish-ka-bobs, and BBQs as they have lightly sweet flavour. It is noteworthy to mention that some vegetables dislike having onions growing as their bedmate. To ensure your success avoid planting Onions near Peas, Parsley, Leeks and Beans. Instead, plant the Onions near Carrots, Beets, Strawberries, Lettuce, Cabbage and Tomatoes. This practice will increase and protect your harvest.
Instructions
Sow the seeds in clusters of 6 or 8 at 3 to 6 mm deep, when soil is around 15 degrees Celsius. Onion seeds are often started indoors approximately six weeks prior to the outdoor soil temperature being around 15 degrees Celsius. Grow onions in a sunny location. Harvest numbers will increase if you mix in several inches of well aged compost or other rich organic matter. Seeds germinate in 7 to 21 days. Harvest onions when the foliage turns yellow and falls over. If you are able to and the weather is dry for several days dry onions outdoors by elevating them off the ground and out of the direct sun entirely. If it’s wet and rainy you must cure onions inside by easily hanging them in a cool, dry location.
